powdered tea & tart apricots debut in the prefecture

era: crossroads

elements:  bergamot • apricot • fog • green & black teas • sandalwood

feel: silky and nuanced

intensity: strong

When the poet and scholar Sugawara Michizane is banished from the royal court in Kyoto, legend has it that he pleads with his favorite apricot tree, “If the spring wind blows, you apricot tree! send your scent to me"—and soon after, the tree flies to him in Dazaifu for a single night. Today there are thousands of ume trees at the Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine, which is built atop the grave of this patron saint of scholars and students.
